About the Society

The Society of Physics Students at  Colorado School of Mines is a professional association affiliated with the American Institute of Physics. Membership is open to anyone interested in physics.

The organization builds community, provides opportunities for improving effective communication and presentation, and reaches out to the campus and Golden community to help spread interest and excitement about science.

The local organization has been designated as an outstanding SPS Chapter by the national office, and has also won the Marsh White Award for community service. However, the main outcome of SPS is plenty of good times for the members.

Devoted To Community Outreach

Every year, the Society of Physics Students at Mines holds two major outreach events: Haunted Physics Lab (HPL) and Future Faces of Physics. Our students devote their time to teaching physics to elementary and high school students within the surrounding community via the use of fun physics demonstrations in hope of inspiring the next generation of scientists.
