Thorlabs Mobile Photonics Lab Experience

Thorlabs Mobile Photonics Lab Experience

The Department of Physics is hosting the Thorlabs Mobile Photonics Lab Experience, a laser and optics lab with hands-on demonstration experiments that take about 20 minutes. Thorlabs is a large international optics and photonics company with a division in Colorado. No appointment is necessary, just show up at the lower GRL/Geology Museum parking lot. The event is during E-Days: Thursday April 11 (11am-6pm) and Friday April 12 (9am-4pm). It’s free!

This is a great opportunity for people at any level to learn more about optics and photonics. These demonstration labs are very cool: there are lab in Biomedical Optics and Imaging (Image inside fingers and nails with live Optical Coherence Tomography system), Spectroscopy (match color with wavelength, visualize water and carbon dioxide absorption lines) and Optical Communications (Transmit music with a laser beam!) .

If you have any questions, contact Chip Durfee, Dept of Physics, cdurfee@mines.edu, using the subject heading Thorlabs mobile lab.
