Field Session undergraduates receive four consecutive days of machine shop experience, which includes all of the major elements of research-related machine shop practices. These include, but are not limited to:
Manual Milling Machine
Manual Toolroom Lathe
Apparatus Design Principles
Sketches & Prints
Effective Communication with Machinists and Machine Shops
Note-taking is required, and all notes must be turned in at the end of each day!
After completing Field Session, many students return to the Machine Shop in later semesters to work on senior design projects, undergraduate and graduate research projects, laboratory and classroom support projects, and so on.
