2004 faculty and graduate students
The Colorado School of Mines (CSM) is a unique university dedicated to the sciences, engineering, and high technologies, with modern facilities and innovative research centers and 30 faculty (21 tenured or tenure-track). Over 250 undergraduate majors and 50 graduate students are involved in the Physics program. The department offers an ABET accredited B.S. in Engineering Physics, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Applied Physics.
The General Research Laboratory
The physics department is engaged in over $2.0 million of externally funded research annually with research strengths in nuclear physics, ultrafast optics, and condensed matter physics. The program benefits from strong ties to local high tech industry, national laboratories such as the nearby National Renewable Energy Laboratory and National Institute of Standards and Technology, and to other universities. The department has a strong involvement in the CSM Materials Science program and has active interdisciplinary collaborations with colleagues in Chemical Engineering, Metallurgy, Chemistry, Mathematics and Computer Science, and Engineering. The department also has a strong committment to education with unique programs dedicated to improved teaching skills and innovation in instruction.

CSM is located in Golden, Colorado along the foothills of the beautiful Front Range of the Rocky Mountains, an emerging high-technology enterprise region. The School is within easy driving distance of Rocky Mountain National Park as well as some of the world's finest ski slopes, hiking, backpacking, mountain and road biking, and classic rock climbing crags. Located only 20 minutes away is metropolitan Denver, a social, cultural, and business hub which offers all the attractions of a major city.
